To become leaders in pig production, we wanted to implement a successful model from Europe in our country. Our extensive experience in swine training allows us to apply the knowledge in the field.
Please tell us a little about your professional career, related to pork production.
Since I am in the industry I have liked to learn new things every day. I have been fortunate to be part of the creation of several projects and I am very concerned to always be at the forefront with the zootechnical innovations that are generated worldwide.
The idea of creating HoCoTec with Luc began after a trip to Germany. I am a veterinarian from “La Salle” University, and I also studied in the Netherlands. I have always been very restless with the technological innovations for pork production issues and I have always been interested in importing knowledge and technologies for the national industry. I have also nurtured my knowledge by learning from colleagues and operators whenever I can.
What do you think is the biggest contribution you have made to the growth of HoCoTec?
I could say without a doubt that I like to take risks without neglecting the different aspects that may affect our company. I always risk to innovate and try new things. I deliver the best of my knowledge and experience with passion and love for the business. The work at HoCoTec has motivated me to contribute all of myself to consolidate as a company and I have the talent to adapt the right people to the right functions.
Why did you decide to be part of this project?
I always wanted to start a school since I was very young. So I’m fortunate to be the founder with Luc. When we started the project I had the vision of that school that I mentioned before, but I saw deficiencies in some concepts that were handled here or how things should be done, so that’s why we took the European model, which included an animal welfare component and good practices in pig farming.
What would you say is the basis of a successful business focused on pork production?
The passion. All businesses are linked to having difficulties and challenges with external issues of climate, transportation, qualified personnel, etc. But it is always important to have passion and perseverance to take the business forward.
Tell us about an anecdote or special moment you have lived in the HoCoTec Farm.
Our auditor was one of the people who demanded the most from the Netherlands. She always imposed his character and demands, before we became leaders. Now, she is our no. 1 promoter, because thanks to our advances, we have shown that we have been able to have a model of the highest quality and that we always demand the most from our tasks and initiatives. Adverse situations have made us grow a lot.
Why would you recommend a student or entrepreneur to be trained in any of the modules offered at HoCoTec?
Because we are not really “inventing” anything. We have experience, we have satisfied customers and we have different and effective production models; We have been able to prove that we are a leading industry farm in the region. We have been historically influential in the regional industry and the most important thing is that the business is growing every day. It is very exciting how we have formed a fabulous work team, since we have professionally excellent people with a very good human quality. I have always wanted to choose for my work team people that I have always admired during my career.
